Pretty picture: Centaurea x 'Montana' flower

Yet another perennial. I like these colors together, the black and blue and pinky-purple, but something about it looks sort of . . . unfinished? Perhaps if there were a lot of blooms going at the same time. As it is, it's B-/C+ work at best.

I think I prefer the smaller, more compact annual Centaureas. Which we do not sell. Anybody want to weigh in on this?

I would hate the plant---sometimes I think breeders dump their failures on us as little jokes---but I love the photo. Bad bloom, great art. I could see it as a quilt block, too...

It is a pretty little flower, could use a few more petals though.

The beauty of this plant in the landscape is not illustrated by a single flower, but by the masses of bloom that produce a marvelous blue haze. It's a vigorous grower that multiplies rapidly (don't think of this as weedy, think lots to share with friends). It holds its own against wild landscapes and in a garden bed. If it's trimmed back after the first big bloom it will bloom again and meanwhile the leaves themselves are quite attractive. Believe me, people ask if I have any extra to pass on.

I love these flowers. I agree they look somewhat unfinished, but in the Japanese Wabi-sabi vein, they are very appealing to me.

I like the wispiness of them!
