Dear "wholesale nurseries" and "wholesale perennials,"

Stop spamming my blog. You are wasting your time. I don't actually care so much if you want to waste your time, but you are also wasting my time, and this is starting to piss me off. I will delete all of your comments as soon as I see them. I don't even click on them first! Or read them very closely!

Also, in case it had escaped your notice because you were too busy spamming to read any of the posts you were commenting on, this blog is primarily about houseplants, so information about how to select perennials or plant trees is not really even all that relevant to what's going on here. So you're wasting your time even more than the usual degree of time-wastage entailed by comment-spamming a blog.

Is this really how you want to be spending your life, leaving unwanted comments on blogs you don't even have time to read, that will be deleted within hours? Life is short! Get outside! Breathe the air, write a haiku, watch a squirrel, listen to the laughter of children, tell someone you love them, organize your kitchen colanders by size. Seize the damn day already. Just stop crapping all over my blog.

Thank you,

mr_subjunctive

Gack! Well, take it as a compliment, Mr. S. Clearly the spambots of the plant world have been noticing the many hits on your blog and figuring that they'd better try to get on there in case your popularity rubs off on them. I guess it beats so-called comments that are actually ads for Viagra!

I'm a little jealous. At least they feel you're worth spamming! :) It would annoy the hell out of me too.

You should moderate posts older than two weeks. That way you can delete them before they even make it through. Saving you at least one step.

Spammers are the scum of the earth. :D

I enjoy the spam written in all Chinese characters. Or, what I take to be such. I bet they are actually sexual in nature. Hopefully.

I'm always kind of surprised when I do stuff like this and it works. No new spammings since I posted this. Hopefully there's a joyous ex-spammer out there, day-seizing.

As someone who is new to all this, I'm actually looking forward to my first bit of spam. I'm sure the thrill will dissipate quickly, though.

I'm with Benjamin. I get these two Chinese spams every day. No idea how to translate them, or what they actually say.

Har har har...loved this post. I haven't received any spam yet. Not enough traffic?

I've really gotten very little spam since PATSP started -- aside from "wholesale perennials/nurseries," there have really only been a couple people, and they're usually pretty easily discouraged. One used to show up every time the word "flower" was mentioned and would drop links to a retail florist somewhere, and that one was actually kind of confusing, since at first I was unsure if it was really spam or if someone was genuinely trying to be helpful. It only became clear which when I noticed that all the links from this person went to the same place and had nothing to do with whatever flower I was actually talking about.

There are also occasionally people who show up advertising things completely unrelated to the blog or anything in it, who are obviously very easily to identify and remove.

I've never felt the need to use the capchas or comment moderation to eliminate spambots, because I just don't see spammers often enough to justify the inconvenience to everybody else.
