Graffiti: Rock and Roll

Just west of Riverside, IA:

What I like best about this one, I think, is the thoughtfulness of using (electrician's?) tape on the sign instead of the harder-to-remove markers or paint.

Iowa: home to gay marriage and considerate vandals. (Massachusetts, eat your heart out.)

That sign has me seriously confused. What on earth does "rock ends" mean?

I took it to mean something like, "The road upon which you are traveling will shortly become a minimum-maintenance unsurfaced dirt road, when the ROCK/gravel surface ENDS." Though in the picture, it appears to be gravel as far as the eye can see, so I can't be positive that's the correct message.

That makes sense. It's been so long since I've been on a gravel road that I'd about forgotten about their existence. ;)
