Pretty picture: Echeveria coccinea flowers

Even more winter blooming. This one was foreshadowed a couple weeks ago, when I first noticed the buds. I don't have a lot to say about the flowers, though. They speak for themselves, I think.

I would have attempted a photo of the whole plant, but it's hard to get on and off the windowsill because there's a set of shelves next to the window, and I was already taking a lot of pictures of other plants last week and kind of didn't have time to mess with more. (Long, boring story, but I took like 1100-1200 pictures between last Wednesday and Saturday, which now all have to be sorted through. Not looking forward to it, but it needed to be done.) Also the flowering stems are long and floppy compared to the rest of the plant and I wasn't sure whether I could get a good picture out of it anyway.

I've had bad Echeveria experiences in the past, but so far E. coccinea looks like it will be different. And if it wants to be an easy flowerer also, hey, I'm not going to complain.

Aw, pretty!

Man I love digital cameras. Can you imagine how much it would cost to get a thousand film photos developed? Modern times are AWESOME!

Agreed it looks lovely as a close up. Not sure about the whole plant.

Agree that's a lot of photos.

Happy 2011.

A complete photo gallery of every plant you have? Your ambition is impressive.

No kidding. While it's true that there are many, many sucky things about the 21st century so far, digital cameras are not one of them.

Esther:

Happy 2011 to you too.

Not quite -- some of the photos I was taking were of plants I already had photos for, but I wanted pictures for comparison, to see how much they'd grown. Some were photos I already had, but I was hoping to get some pictures that looked better (more detailed, better color, clearer focus, whatever). Some were of plants I had no photos of yet, but I've been working on building a library of pictures of plants since November 2009, both plants I own and plants I don't, to make the List posts easier to put together. So I already had photos of most of the plants I own.

Altogether, I now have new sets of pictures for about 115 plants to go through, with an average of about ten shots per plant. Best-case scenario, that'll take about 30 hours to do, faster if a lot of the photos are all very good or very bad, slower if they're in-between.

Would you like others to submit photos of plants that you don't already have photos of?

I'm not sure. I have an idea for a project that might require a few specific ones, but I haven't figured out how the project's going to work yet, so I don't know which ones I'd need. (If I figure out how to do it, I'll let y'all know.)

I adore echeverias. They're so pretty, I just bought 2 for three dollars each the other day at Lowe's Home Improvement. These picture are lovely, I was wondering how big your plant is? Mine are very small but yours seems pretty big.
...that's what she said.

I don't know, exactly. The plant's in a 4-inch pot, which is maybe too big for it but it was what I had available when the cutting arrived. It was a single large cutting (maybe 10 inches long?) that I cut in two and planted.
