In practice, this often means that I've also sorted them according to genus -- all of my Neoregelias are in the living room, for example -- but I don't really try to sort beyond that. It's hard enough finding places for them all when I'm limited mr_subjunctivehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14113199755474482747noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2481706068105246695.post-13326857850827243652009-08-11T12:42:43.118-07:002009-08-11T12:42:43.118-07:00Sooo THAT'S how you do it! I have a similar light setup in my guest room, but it's just one 4 foot high rack, and it's not even very full right now, as I've been downsizing the houseplant collection. (But I've been "upsizing" the orchid collection, so they will be moving into the empty shelves soon, no doubt.sheilanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2481706068105246695.post-59826643150018527552009-07-07T15:24:04.845-07:002009-07-07T15:24:04.845-07:00With regard to changing lights every year - it'...With regard to changing lights every year - it's more that the output of the bulb changes in terms of the spectrum of the light rather than intensity (green light - which is basically useless for plants - looks brighter to us so many manufacturers tune their bulbs to have a lot of green).

I've had good results with bulbs with a colour temperature of around 6500K - 6700K - the Andrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16347983770474369842noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2481706068105246695.post-28957587970853641962009-07-07T08:07:49.126-07:002009-07-07T08:07:49.126-07:00The hardware store doesn't always have them, e...The hardware store doesn't always have them, either--the salesguy was kind of surprised to find out they did.

Fluorescent tubes from online sources are generally about the same price as in the store when you add shipping and handling (depending, of course, upon whom you're buying from). There are four rows and each row can easily hold about 8 medium-sized plants (or about 20 or so small plants). All that to say that shelves are a great way to grow a lot of plants in a concentrated space.Plowing Through Life (Martha)https://www.blogger.com/profile/06547318824997712369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2481706068105246695.post-52020417830430092392009-07-06T17:33:05.703-07:002009-07-06T17:33:05.703-07:00Oi, my 6-foot-tall, 4-foot-wide, 18-inch-deep 4-sh...Oi, my 6-foot-tall, 4-foot-wide, 18-inch-deep 4-shelf "chromate" metal-wire shelving unit cost $100, plus $16 for the additional two shelves.

I should have gone to Target...!
