Pretty picture: Macodes petola?

No flowers on this one, but that's okay. Leaves like these don't need flowers.

I'm not 100% sure on the ID; there was no tag, except for the price tag. (I removed the price because I find them distracting, but it was $30. I would have removed the sticker altogether if I had the sort of picture-modification skills to do so.) M. petola seemed like the most likely possibility, but if you have some expertise with these and know it's not, please leave a comment.

The lack of ID means I can update the orchid show scoreboard again:

  1. Looks exactly like my Mecodes Petola. The leaves are fantastic, like tiny golden lightning bolts on velvet.

  2. Looks like a M. petola to me. Care is similar to Ludisia discolor. Both did well for me when in a 40g terrarium.

  5. I would need both flowers and foliage to be 100% sure, but I would say you're right and it's Mecodes Petola

  7. How interesting that an orchid without blooms would be on display at an orchid show.

  8. Just did an image search for the flowers and now see why it was exhibited without its flowers. The leaves are the interesting part; the flowers are insignificant and uninteresting.

  10. I love how plant patterns can repeat scenes found in nature, like the lightening bolts that are clearly patterned in those leaves....Fantastic!
