(This was originally supposed to go up this morning, but then I got concerned that it wasn't, you know,
planty enough. Thus, the
Papaver photo earlier.)
On 27 December, we woke up to a clear, sunny morning where everything that had been outside overnight had turned white. This is called
rime (in this specific case, "hard" rime -- there is also a
"soft" rime, but it's different), and occurs when fog forms at below-freezing temperatures, and is very pretty.
These pictures were taken in and near Hills, IA, just south of Iowa City.
That's plenty planty for me! It's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBreathtaking! It is beautiful when everything is white. Thanks for venturing out today.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful pictures. Makes me - almost - like winter.
ReplyDeleteSuper wow. Beautiful trees. "Rime" is a funny word. It doesn't do justice to the beauty it names.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! Can't go wrong with a scene like that!
ReplyDeleteHugh:
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm sure the word "rime" has its reason.
Absolutely gorgeous! It's amazing how a little frozen water can transform a tree.
ReplyDeleteWow -- that's what I call a winter wonderland! You could make cards out of those photographs. Thank you for posting them.
ReplyDeleteLate to see this but absolutely gorgeous. Don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that up here.
ReplyDeleteWaa, wonderful pictures!! i really liked..
