Maybe it thinks it won't be noticed (?) - akin to loosing one's glasses on top one's head - though probably not a good long term plan.

That is a beautiful picture of Nina. She is adorable.
This happens every time I add new crickets to the terrarium: they wander all over the place for an hour or two, until they settle down. Nina will hunt and eat them if she happens to be hungry, but if she's not, she either ignores them completely or tries to get away from them.
Ha!!! Let's just hope we're not all crickets in the terrarium of life, being stalked by Evil Forces we neither recognize nor understand! Not, of course, that lovely Nina qualifies as an Evil Force...
