Pretty picture: Phragmipedium Cardinale 'Birchwood'

Something about this picture makes me think of the word "jaunty." (1. Having a buoyant or self-confident air; brisk. 2. Crisp and dapper in appearance; natty. ref) Perhaps it's just me.

That picture does make me think of something, but jaunty isn't the word for a botanically correct urinal.

Delightful! And how unromantic for the Phactor to come up with such an image. It says to me, "pretty girl in a party dress". What it also says is "I want one! Now!!" Ooooh sometimes my space and environmental limitations hurt.

Curious, how is it that you have a picture of this unusual orchid?

Nature ID (Katie):

It was at the orchid show in the Quad Cities three weeks ago.

Paph. micranthum is known as the toilet bowl orchid among orchid growers.

I think it looks jaunty because of the horizontal petals. They look like a well-groomed old-timey mustache.
