I almost came up with a caption for this, but everything was coming out subtly wrong. Feel free to suggest something.
Nothing exciting with either pet this week, though it appears that Nina's Fittonia, the new one with the pink veins, is not going to root. The cuttings I'd tried to start in the basement didn't work either. Perhaps this is not the way to go about propagating Fittonias.

Is that a picture of Nina eating her shed skin?
Shed skin: the other white meat. ;)
Ginny Burton:
It is.
How am I supposed to know what chicken tastes like?
Protein!
Random comment: Just wanted to let you know that I love your blog and your sense of humor. The toxic plant blog entries you have on here from a few years ago are the most useful information on the subject that I have ever found online.
Is there a trick to rooting Fittonia? I just trimmed a leggy plant back and stuck the cuttings in soil, hoping for the best.
Also, suggested caption:
"What? I'm fucking delicious."
Derek:
I have no idea. I've rooted one set (of the small-leafed, white-veined cv.) successfully by sticking the cuttings directly into wet soil, but the large-leafed, pink-veined variety is not cooperating with me so far.
Even the ones that did root haven't grown much, so it may be early to call that a success.
