Unfinished business: Cyclamen persicum

The Cyclamen has in fact been successfully rebloomed. (It even has more blooms on it than it did when I bought it!) So it can be done.

The plant still makes me kind of nervous -- I'm afraid that at any moment it's going to fall to pieces and I won't know why -- but I never expected to get this far with it, so I'm feeling a sort of anxious pride about this.

Not that I ever feel any other kind of pride, it should be noted.

Pretty. I've got to try one of those again sometime. I was a plant newbie when I bought mine and didn't realize that the fuzzy white stuff was webbing from cyclamen mites.

I thoroughly enjoyed it while it lasted, however. I was utterly fascinated by the fact that they bloom so quickly that you can actually watch the flowers open.

What about gay pride!? ;)

Congrats! (You've gotten further than I ever have.)

In the current political climate, gay pride is an anxious pride.

I almost gave up on our white cyclamen a few times, but my boyfriend kept saying "Give it another chance." It was on our back porch in LA, mostly shaded. It came back time and again, from pathetic looking and near-death, to fully blooming and looking gorgeous--recapturing its former glory. Until---we went out of town for a long time, boyfriend left it in the sunny part of porch, and it finally gave up the ghost. So sad.
BUT--this is to say they can be hardy. Congratulations to you! So happy for you. May your cyclamen continue to bloom for many years.

Job well done, MS! Any tips to share?

Nothing that would be much of a surprise, really. I have it in the basement, under a fluorescent shop light. The basement is usually cooler than the rest of the house, but lately it's been much cooler, because it's been so hot outside that the air conditioning has been running more than usual. Other than that, nothing much: I water and feed like I do for most of my other plants.

Great job! I tried cyclamen once, it came from grocery store but promptly died, nevermind reblooming. You obviously doing something right.

I only see cyclamen plants here during the Christmas season. I also wonder if I can ever successfully grow a cyclamen in my climate. Getting a plant to rebloom with more flowers than when it was first purchased gives me a sense of satisfaction and achievement. Thanks to digital cameras, we can document the moment for keeps.
