Rumble Among the Jungle, Match 4.6, Plus Bonus Music Video

Outcome of match 4.2:

For some reason, more of you voted for Philodendron hederaceum cvv. than for Aglaonema cvv. in match 4.2. I infer that this is because 56% of you are extremely high. I don't want to hear your feeble excuses; just know that I am very disappointed in you.

Philodendron wins, 64 to 51, and will face Saintpaulia cvv. in match 5.1, which will begin on 31 October.

Match 4.6
Oncidium alliance orchids (dancing ladies) vs. Sansevieria trifasciata cvv. (snake plant)

Left side, top to bottom: Beallara Marfitch 'Howard's Dream,' Oncidium Tsiku Marguerite 'NN #1.'
Center, top to bottom: Vuylstekeara Aloha Sparks 'Ruby Eyes,' Odontocidium Tiger Crow 'Golden Girl,' Wilsonara Lisa Devos.
Right side, top to bottom: Oncidium Saint Dawn Gold, Bakerara Truth 'Silver Chalice.'

Top row, L-R: Sansevieria trifasciata 'Black Coral,' 'Laurentii,' 'Bantel's Sensation.'
Center row, L-R: S. trifasciata NOID, 'Hahnii,' 'Hahnii Pearl Young.'
Bottom row, L-R: S. trifasciata 'Moonglow,' 'Black Gold.'

As a bonus (though 56% of you don't deserve it), here is a music video for the video "2012," by the group WORLD ORDER. (The main guy is apparently a retired Japanese mixed martial artist-slash-kickboxer named Genki Sudo, who writes and sings the songs, choreographs the videos, and could completely incapacitate you in 0.4 seconds using only his pinky. I only heard of him for the first time last night, so I know basically nothing about the man.)

The video is a slow build, but I suspect that it works better if you let it build, rather than skipping ahead to the big finish. (Also helpful: keeping in mind that what you're watching is choreography, not special effects. If that fails, you can watch the plants: it was filmed in Mexico and there are several plant-relevant locations.) If you're not feeling thoroughly entertained by 3:57, I will apologize to you personally. Not in person, but, you know, I can call or something.

The video (and song, actually) for "Machine Civilization" is more of the same, if you want more.

A waterfall of Oncidium makes my heart dance. Sorry sanseviera, you loose this round.

I had forgotten about Genki Sudo, thanks for the reminder. Definitely the sort of wacky of which the world needs more.

I didn't vote for or against the Aglaonemas, never met one that I remember.

I can't believe aglaonema lost... I think I'm going to go out and protest with a big sign that says "We are the 44%!"

Okay, that video was pretty frickin' sweet!

Oh, and don't forget, Joseph -- agavas lost too. heh.

I might have been one the the people who voted "wrong" on Aglaonema vs Philodendron. Some of these are rather close calls for me. If it's a plant that's performed well for me (philodendron) versus one I don't remember growing before (aglaonema), then the familiar plant tends to win... even if my impressions of the less familiar plant are 100% favorable. The reverse can play out when the more familiar plant has performed poorly.

Admittedly, an imperfect way to elect a president. Oh, what's that you say? The winner will not be president? Maybe those of us who vote wrong can be sent to houseplant re-education camps. :-)

The world is certainly a small place, especially on the internet.

I had first come across your blog when looking up how to take care of my dieffenbachias, which I needed at the time for a practice I was learning from a shaman friend.

Genki is another student of Lujan Matus, and has incorporated a few of the elements from a set he has learned from Lujan into the moves at the end of this video. :)

Aglaonema lost because they're dumb. And I can't keep them alive for more than 15 minutes.

Lol, I like the lady moving the chair out of their way at 0:56. :)

IIRC, I voted for the Aglaonemas.

:( At least my Philodendrons are cooler than your aglaonema!

My Oncidium is just about to flower. There's no question who to vote for in this match. S. trifasciata is a sweet plant, but sort of... well... boring.

There's no "sort of" about it, Paivi -- Sans ARE boring.

wow, you don't have to apologise to me, I loved that video, so funny and the guys were really snappy in their movements. Yeah, I suppose the music was ok too.
