This is probably better at full size (open in a separate window to judge for yourself), but I liked it anyway. I've never been a big fan of Cannas as flowering plants: there just didn't seem to be enough balance between the leaves and flowers to make it a fair fight. Obviously the foliage was the draw.
However, like Pam at Tales From the Microbial Laboratory, I'm not incapable of appreciating the flowers on their own. This is definitely a nice color. If only the flowers and leaves were a bit more in proportion with one another, you know?

You know, Mr. S., I could never figure out what it was that bothered me about cannas. You have given me the answer! It is the proportion, ... but the color is fantastic!
Cannas are practically a requirement down here. I don't really worry about the color of the flowers... I just go for the leaves... the dark bronze ones are my faves, but I like the striped ones too... Lately I've seriously been thinking about the banana cannas... 3 foot+ leaves on 8 foot tall plants...
Beautiful flower!
Hey! I always think the flowers on their own are quite nice (the color of yours is beautiful!) but there's just a disconnect that I can't figure out. Maybe it is the proportion. I'll have to think about that.
It's not actually mine. Though it could have been: I took this picture at Menards.
I just love the big tropical leaves. The flowers are really just a bonus. I'm also thinking of trying banana cannas soon.
